Genetic Wellness uses smart science to help you understand your body based on genetic and diagnostic insights. Nutrigenetics looks at the link between genetics and nutrition. Genetic variations influence a variety of aspects of our body’s nutrition, everything from an individual’s ability to absorb Vitamin D to your risk of being gluten intolerant.
Different Traits
You may already be aware of some of these traits, such as your taste preferences, but other traits, such as your body’s ability to process different fats, you won’t know until you’ve had your genes genotyped.
Your unique genetic code
Your unique genetic code can give you answers to important dietary and nutritional questions, such as:
- Are you extra sensitive to weight gain with simple carbohydrate intake?
- Should your fat intake be lowered, or even increased?
- How well do you use protein?
- Will unsaturated fats actually decrease your fat mass, even if your calories increase?
How it works?
Genetic Wellness sends out a genetic test kit in the post, this is usually dispatched within 24 hours of the order being made.
The genetic wellness provider completes the genetic analysis and after 3-4 weeks a personalised report is ready to view on a personal dashboard. All DNA sample material is destroyed after three months.
Set-up requirements
Employer confirms they wish to make the benefit available to employees and whether they wish to extend the provision to allow employees to add their spouse/partner. Most employers operate Genetic Wellness as an Anytime Benefit.
How is it paid for?
The Employer pays for Genetic Wellness test and the employee repays your business over twelve equal monthly deductions from salary. If the employee leaves during the repayment period any outstanding amount is recovered from the final salary.
Tax Status
If operated through salary sacrifice then the employee saves NI at 8% or 2%, depending on their personal rate of tax and BIK charge applies. This benefit can also be facilitated as a Net deduction with no BIK (employee does not make NI savings).
